We will host two performances of the Neopolitans' Iphigeneology, an adaptation of Iphigenia by Euripides, on August 21 at 8:00 pm and August 22 at 2:00 pm. Set in a period that is not the future, past or present, this re-imagination of Euripides' tragedy is set during the war against Troy to get Helen back. The Greek army is held up at Aulis and getting anxious about the lack of wind. Artemis, the Greek Goddess of the Hunt, tells Agamemnon, the leader of the Greeks, that in order to get wind for the sails he must sacrifice his eldest daughter, Iphigenia. In an attempt to carry out his plan without his family catching on, he writes his wife, Clytemnestra to bring Iphigenia to Aulis to marry the warrior Achilles. Drama, chaos and comedy soon take over in this tragedy about sacrifice, war and family. (Click here for a review from a Chicago performance.) Conceived by Susan Padveen, with Dustin Craig, David Fehr, Isabel Guzman-Barron, Drew Hahn, Dan Howard, Sam hubbard, Jill Karrenbrock, Andrew Nowak, Laura Sturm, Britni Tozzi, Cody Estle, with additional text by Cassandra Rose. Director: Susan Padveen; Stage Manager: Carisa Anderson; Lights: Wade Holiday; Sets: Mike Mroch; Costumes: Frances Maggio; Sound: Laura Walsh. The play will be performed in a tent outdoors, so dress for the temperature! Tickets are $20 and will be available at the gallery in early August. |
